This is Axel and Maisy’s story, whom we met in the last book,
Hot Shot’s Mistake, and it takes us on their journey from being mere
acquaintances to friendly coworkers to a whole lot more. Their attraction was
instant, but this is still in a sense a slow-burn romance. With Maisy now working
in HR for the Thunderbolts, she and Axel see a lot more of each other and
eventually they begin to date. Their relationship develops slowly and not
without hiccups along the way, but the chemistry and need for one another is
palpable.
I love how relatable these characters are. I think everyone can
understand feelings of inadequacy and apprehension to some degree, and both
Axel and Maisy are both plagued with those at times. It lends a genuineness and
affability to their characters that I appreciated. Seeing them figure
themselves out along with each other makes them so endearing and realistic, and
I enjoyed the complexity it brought to their personalities.
And they are both beyond adorable in their own ways! Axel is
the big, gruff hockey player, and Maisy is so sunny and sweet despite dealing with
a lot as far as her past relationships go and how she’s trying to approach what
she wants in life in the future. They’re so likeable, and Axel is as swoon worthy
as they come. I rooted for them from the very start, and they just got better
and better as the story progressed.
This is another sweet and heartfelt must read from Azzi. It’s
a wonderfully light romance that gives you all the feels, and I dare you to not
finish this book without smiling.
