Alexis Winters’ Dirty Little Secret features Theo Carmichael as the grumpy billionaire boss who’s married to his work and Wren Adler, the cheerful, sweet to sometimes a fault, head of PR. They’ve worked together for years and despite the mutual attraction from both of them, Wren was in a long-term relationship until just a few months ago, and Theo didn’t think a romantic relationship with her would be a good thing since she’s his employee. However, when Wren realizes she’s being stalked by some unknown man and lets Theo know, he has her move into his home to keep her safe until the stalker situation is taken care of. From there, we get to see their relationship grow to be more than just friendship.
Theo and Wren’s story is a slow burn with a lot of tension
between them and with the added stress of Wren’s ex and her stalker. It takes a
while for their relationship to start to bloom, but the sexiness and banter
between them make the wait worth it. Really, I enjoy when a book doesn’t just
give it all up in the first few chapters. It keeps me engaged and makes me want
to keep reading, and that’s what Dirty Little Secret did for me.
Then there are Theo and Wren as the characters, and I just
love them. Theo is the hot, older boss that I have such a soft spot for. At
first, I sort of thought he’d just be the typical rich jerk, but he ended up
being sweet and generous and oh so sexy. And Wren? She’s cute, likable, and
relatable, which I love in a heroine. She’s described as curvy and voluptuous,
and she seems to be a bit self-conscious of that but embraces her natural self
at the same time. I love seeing a main character have insecurities but thrive
despite them. It makes Wren come off as someone you might actually know, and it
made me like her even more.
This grumpy billionaire boss, age-gap romance doesn’t
disappoint. The angst and drama that propels this story will suck you in and
keep you turning the page.
