Only One Forever is an emotional read filled with plenty of angst but love and tenderness, too. It’s the final book in the series, and it’s not to be missed.
When the book begins, we find that Dylan’s team in Montreal
has lost yet another playoffs run, and it’s fair to say he’s sick of it.
Something’s missing in his life, and he’s in a sort of a bad spot. When Alex
tells him to come down to Dallas where she’s recently moved to, he gets there
as soon as he can the next day. They’re cousins but not by blood, and they’ve
been best friends since Dylan was adopted by Alex’s uncle as a child. Because
of that connection, they’ve always resisted their true not-so-family-like
feelings for one another, but those emotions eventually catch up to them. This
is where the story really takes off, and we see them go from best friends and
cousins (but not biologically) to something very different.
Dylan and Alex’s story was everything I had hoped for! It
was an emotional rollercoaster in the best way, and I was sad when it ended.
They’re faced with such a difficult situation, since they’ve been raised as
family but have romantic feelings. It’s a tough place for both of them to be
in, and it’s made even worse by the fact that the other might not feel the same
way. There’s so much angst and heartbreak, but it is so worth it. I loved
seeing how these two navigated everything, even when things felt a bit
frustrating. Their story was so much about the new journey they were embarking
upon, and the ups and downs made it all the more addictive.
Something I adore about this book and series as a whole is
that there’s this larger cast of characters at play that help the main
story/stories along. There are situations wherein the other family members are
included, and it’s never unnecessary. With Madison’s books, I actually look
forward to the appearances of the others. This family might joke around or
meddle here or there, but it’s always well intended and well written. They add
not only an element of fun but also a sort of gravity to it all. As the last
book in this series, I really got the sense that this family has come full
circle, which as a reader made me feel rather satisfied.
So, if you’ve read the rest of this series and are
contemplating whether or not to read this book, I’m here to tell you that you
do. Only One Forever is so heartfelt and well done, and I’m honestly sad that
this series is over. However, we do have the spin off of this series to look
forward to later this year, so I’m super excited about that.
