Cute and fun, this flirty romance is a lighthearted read. It’s the sort of book that you’ll be entertained by and great for when you’re not in an intense kind of book mood.
Peony, the owner and creator of a dating tech company, finds
herself on a mountain on her way to meet her boyfriend that she’s also made the
CEO of her company and then gets a call from him saying they’re done. Not only
does he break up with her, but he also lets her know that they’re selling the
company. Unfortunately, there’s nothing she can do about it but try to get back
to San Francisco to stop the sale, since it’s happening in the next couple days.
Seeing as she’s gotten off her path on the mountain, she luckily runs into Bane,
who is someone who luckily has some outdoor skills, and he proposes they get
back down the mountain together and then get back to San Francisco. What ensues
is them getting to know each other and developing a friendship and eventually
more despite them being total opposites.
The banter between Peony and Bane was so fun. Their characters
play off one another in a very entertaining way. She’s such type A kind of
intelligent woman, and he’s a good-looking Hollywood type with a Cajun accent that’s
got an irreverent feel to him. They bicker and mess with each other with humorous
results, and it all lends to their building feelings and burgeoning
relationship.
This is a light read, which I like from it, but at the same
time I do wish we got to see more from Bane’s point of view earlier in the
book. I feel like it would’ve lent more emotion to the storyline, because I
really do enjoy the kind of character he turns out to be. Overall, I think I
just wished for a little more substance earlier in the story, but I really like
how playful Peony and Bane’s interactions are. They’re sweet and fun, and their
teasing is smile inducing.
If you’re looking for a fairly quick and light read, check
out Cocky Hotshot. It’s got plenty of sweet and funny moments and will leave
you amused.
