Claiming the Cowboy by Kennedy Fox

Angsty filled with a pair of very swoonworthy twin brothers, this super steamy friends to lovers love triangle is the newest addition to the Circle B Ranch series. It’s a complex romance with plenty of drama, and I couldn’t get enough of it.

Kane and Hadleigh have been best friends since forever. Knox, Kane’s twin brother, on the other hand, has been friends (acquaintances?) with Hadleigh, but their friendship is nowhere near as close as her and Kane’s. During the annual bachelor auction, Knox goes first, and Hadleigh wins a date with him. She was supposed to also win Kane, but another woman does instead when she outbids Hadleigh. Knox and Hadleigh eventually go out on their date, and sparks fly. It wasn’t really expected by either of them, but the pull between them is undeniable. However, when Kane finds out that his brother and best friend had more of a good time than he bargained for, he sets out to stake his claim and confess his true feelings of love to her. Thus, a love triangle forms when Hadleigh is confronted by two brothers that she was always just friends with and now each of them want more with her. Throughout much of the book, the reader is left to wonder which brother will prevail, and we see both Knox and Kane making quite the effort to gain Hadleigh’s love.

I don’t have much experience with books with love triangles, but I think this one is well done. I really got the sense that this was a difficult decision by Hadleigh, and Kane and Knox definitely didn’t make it easy for her to choose. Having said that, she was incredibly indecisive up until a certain point in the book (a VERY spicy moment), and I did wonder why she couldn’t figure it out before then. However, I love both Kane and Knox, and while reading this book I wasn’t sure who I wanted her to fall in love with more, so I guess I understand her trouble deciding. Both main male characters are very compelling, and I found myself rooting for both of them at different times.

Something I absolutely love about this book and this series is that while the main focus of the story is on Hadleigh, Kane, and Knox, we get glimpses of the rest of the family. If you’ve read any of the other books, you’ll appreciate seeing all of the secondary characters, many of which have already had their stories told. Reading the rest of the series or even the Bishop Brothers series (the previous generation of Bishops) is not necessary, but I do recommend you read them just because they’re pretty great. These other characters add another level of intricacy to the story, and without them I feel like there’d be something missing. I love this world that Kennedy Fox has created, and because of these authors I’m all about cowboy romances now. Claiming the Cowboy reinforces that.

This super spicy and drama-filled romance is emotional and well written. These characters and the tricky situation they find themselves in make for a must read, and I’m anxiously awaiting the next book in this series.
