The Boss by Melanie Moreland

Gripping from the start, The Boss sucked me in from its first pages and kept me engaged.

We first meet Evie as she’s running from the man she’d been seeing after he essentially tried to kill her. She stumbles into the wrong (or the right?) abandoned-looking warehouse where she passes out. When she wakes up, she finds a group of men surrounding two other men, and Evie sees something she shouldn’t have. The boss turns out to be Matteo, and rather than doing something unpleasant with his witness, he offers her the choice to marry him. Evie agrees, and from then on we get to see as they navigate a new life together- all the good and the bad.

These characters were so good, and they are such a good fit for one another. Matteo is sexy and surprisingly cute and kind with Evie, and she gains strength as the book progresses. In the first few pages, I was a little concerned that Evie would possibly be a more meek character, but I was wrong. She seriously turns into the kind of character I love to read about: strong and likeable.

This story is filled with sweetness but suspense, too. It makes for a very readable combination, and it makes it the kind of book you hate to put down. I don’t typically read romantic suspense, but I will now if Moreland is writing it. She’s outdone herself with The Boss, and I can’t wait for the next book in the Hidden Justice series.

The Boss is both a captivating and compelling romantic suspense story and is a fantastic start to this series. You’re definitely going to want to read it.
