Fun, cute, and lighthearted, Kissing My Co-Worker is an entertaining holiday novella.
Declan and Lily both work for the same company, but he’s an
executive while she’s another executive’s assistant. They’ve both pined for one
another for the last two years, but neither of them have been brave enough to
be honest with their feelings to the other. They both fear that any sort of romantic
relationship between them would cause inter-office drama, and they don’t want
to risk their jobs when they don’t even know the other person shares the same
feelings. We get to see how their relationship switches from a rather tense
co-worker situation to something much more.
This is the first in J. Sterling’s Fun For the Holidays
Series, and it’s such an enjoyable novella with slightly awkward but cute
characters. I really like how unabashedly all in Declan is in his feelings for
Lily and how she’s adorably aloof when it comes to his hidden affections even
though she feels the same way. It’s fun to see how their secret crushes for one
another eventually turn into something else.
Also, as this is a novella, it’s a quick read, and the quick
pace works. I like that nothing about this book dragged on but rather was
pretty direct. It’s like when you watch a romcom and it all sort of starts far
enough along in the story but with enough background explanation that it doesn’t
feel rushed. It’s a lighthearted read, and Sterling does a good job of building
these characters and the scenes in such a way that you feel like you get them
but without giving away too much and creating an unnecessarily angsty novella.
This book is like a more adult version of a Hallmark movie
and is completely fun and cheery. This is a great book for when you’re in the
mood for something not serious or complicated, and you just want to read something
that will leave you with a smile on your face.
