Heartbreakingly and beautifully written, Relentless Hunter is everything I hoped for in this last installment of the Mafia Wars series. It’s insanely heartfelt and steamy, and the angst is completely palpable.
This story concerns Finn, the bad boy O’Malley and eventually
ex con, and Brenna, who at the start of their relationship is the good-girl college
student that’s just gotten out of a relationship that was just bad news in a
very below the surface way. Their connection is undeniable from the very start
even before they’ve said anything to one another. It’s very much so a case of
love at first sight, and they fairly quickly are all in with each other.
However, something happens that will change the course of both of their lives
for the next couple decades with tragic results. This book traces Finn and
Brenna’s paths from the beginning and follows them for over 20 years.
These characters are wonderfully written. Finn is the tough
guy and a bit of a brute, but he’s got so much heart. Brenna is the sort of
heroine who makes you fall in love with her grit and passion, and you can feel her
emotions. Their love for one another is both inspiring and touching, and the
progression is beautiful but sad at times, too. This is hands down one of, if
not the, most emotional and memorable romances that I have ever read.
Also, from start to finish, this book is well done. The
writing, pacing, plotline…all of it. I genuinely can’t find fault with this story.
Cole always delivers great romance fiction, and Relentless Hunter is a
fantastic example of that. There’s a steaminess that works in favor of the emotion
within the characters, and all the heartbreak and angst serve to propel the
story forward. Every aspect of this story feels deliberate and necessary, and I
could not put it down.
If I could give this book more than 5 stars, I would. It is
just that good. Moving but spicy, I can assure you that you’ll be happy you’ve
read Finn and Brenna’s story.
