If you like billionaire romances with lots of conflict, Trouble by Tia Louise is for you. It’s filled with sweet moments but some sexy ones too, and there’s plenty of drama throughout.
In Trouble, we meet Spencer, the billionaire antiques dealer
with a troubled background, and Joselyn, a quirky and fiery massage
therapist/floral sculptor. When the two first meet at Joselyn’s cousin Daisy’s
wedding, they’re instantly attracted to one another and share a kiss, despite
Joselyn already being in a committed relationship. Neither can stop thinking
about the other after, and soon enough Joselyn catches her boyfriend cheating
on her. She takes a job creating floral sculptures for a gala that Spencer’s
business is throwing, and the two end up getting together for a night. Spencer
doesn’t do relationships, though, and Joselyn quickly leaves before he wakes up
the morning after. But, he can’t get her out of his head no matter what he
tells himself, and things go from there. Along the way, there’s conflict
between them and also concerning Joselyn’s friend and temporary roommate’s ex.
Trouble is well written. The pacing and development works,
and both Spencer and Joselyn’s backgrounds are fitting for the characters they
are in the books. It tends to drive me a little nuts when a character’s past
and present don’t line up at all, but that’s not the case here. Also, I like
that Joselyn is such a strong female lead. She’s fun but still has a tough girl
vibe, especially when it comes to her friend Courtney’s situation. There’s
plenty of angst dealing with that and between the two main characters.
Something I didn’t love was how back and forth with her
feelings and decisions Joselyn was. With Spencer, we get the whole closed off,
won’t love kind of guy, whose opinion on love is wavering because of Joselyn.
However, with her, we get her swearing off men for a year and then wanting to
jump into something so fast that I found it a little frustrating. I felt like Joselyn
just needed to make a decision and stick with it. But then, I’m sure we probably
all personally know someone like that, too. Because of this, I think I’d have
given Trouble more of a 4.5 rating, but that wasn’t possible, and I like to
round up. Also, despite this, I enjoyed reading Spencer and Joselyn's story.
In the end, if you love a brooding billionaire and tough but
quirky heroine, give Trouble a read.
