These two were college sweethearts, but Travis broke Harlow’s
heart by doing what he thought was best for her and her professional future at
the time. Since she had once promised to be there on Travis’ happiest day, she
finds herself attending his wedding to another woman. But, fate has other
plans, and nothing goes right. For reason you’ll find out about, the wedding
doesn’t happen, and this story follows Travis and Harlow as they get their
second chance together.
I completely adore these characters! Travis may have been a
bit of a dummy in the past with breaking up with Harlow, but it didn’t make me
love him any less. Really, it might have made me care for him even more. His
sweetness and selflessness when it comes to Harlow is amazingly swoony, and his
clear love for her and how well he groveled had me rooting for him the whole
time. I love how their breakup four years before isn’t merely swept under the
rug, and Travis has to really work for her trust again. And Harlow? She’s strong
and loveable, and I felt a sort of adoration for her. Travis breaking up with
her all those years before took a toll on her, but despite all that she
persevered. She’s successful and trying to live her best life, and it’s easy to
love her character. However, these two together are simply made for each other
and meant to be, and their love is so evident early on.
This story is well paced and thoughtfully written. Madison answers
any of your questions you might have, and never was I left wondering why this
or that happened. The quality of writing in this book is what I’ve come to
expect from this author, and I think it’s probably part of why she’s become one
of my favorites. Mine to Have is a second-chance romance, and I find that
sometimes that’s a hard trope to do realistically. Not with this book though. Travis
and Harlow’s happily ever after is hard fought, and I loved how their story
played out.
Mine to Have is without a doubt a must read. This book is well
written and filled with exactly the right amounts of angst, love, humor, and swoon-worthy
moments, and I can’t recommend it enough.
