The Joy of Us by Kennedy Fox

This reverse grumpy/sunshine, forced proximity romance is everything I could’ve hoped for in this steamy Christmas romance. Levi and Fallon’s story begins with Fallon unknowingly trespassing in Levi’s house when she thinks she’s rented it. They have a hilarious meet cute that involves Levi coming home to find her in his bed, some mace, and a whole lot of yelling. Due to a raging blizzard and later a lack of available hotel rooms, Levi lets Fallon stay with him for the duration of her work trip as a journalist covering the very Christmas-y town. Little by little something blooms, and their forced roommate situation becomes much more. Will they be able to say goodbye at the end of Fallon’s trip, or will their holiday fling fizzle out?

Levi is as swoonworthy a lumberjack as I had wanted him to be since we first met him in Finn and Oakley’s book. He’s kind but sort of gruff and the way he is with Fallon is both entertaining and sweet. I loved him right away and throughout the entire story. I think it would be hard not to. Fallon’s a true grinch at the start of the book, and she comes off as almost bratty. She’s got her reasons though, and when you find out, her bad attitude absolutely makes sense. Fallon’s backstory made me tear up, which made how everything that evolved between her and Levi that much better. By the end of the book, I adored her, and I love how her story played out. Simply put, it made me happy.

Also, I thoroughly enjoyed that this was a Christmastime-themed romance coupled with the reverse grumpy/sunshine trope. Fallon’s such a crab in general it seems but so much more during that time of year, and the way Levi is unabashedly a lover of all things Christmas made for some rather funny moments. The chemistry between them was evident, and the banter between them was cute and cheeky. Their story is a big ‘ol cup of spicy eggnog, and I smiled all the way through.

So, if you’re in the mood for a Christmas romance that’s equal parts steaminess and sweetness, then you’re going to want to read The Joy of Us. It’ll make you laugh and cry and all the things in between, and it’ll leave you smiling.
