The Sweetest Thing by Maya Hughes

The Sweetest Thing is the second Maya Hughes’ SWANK series, and it doesn’t disappoint!

This is Hunter’s book out of the group of guys, and he is the smoothest and most charming at least on the outside. However, in the Sweetest Thing, we find that his personality is almost a sort of armor he hides behind. In reality, he’s damaged and doesn’t even understand how much he needs some support. This is where his grandmother’s meddling comes in handy in the form of Sabrina. She’s the feisty, funny, creative woman Hunter didn’t even know he needed. The book starts off with Sabrina surprising Hunter with her presence. He’s not happy about her moving in at all, and he doesn’t exactly hide his feelings. It takes a while for them to finally find a way to coexist happily enough, and along the way their attraction and connection grows.

Hunter and Sabrina are my new favorite couple from Hughes. They’re cute with good chemistry. Also, I love a damaged hero, and that’s exactly what Hunter is. He’s got personal issues that cause him to keep everyone at arm’s length, even his closest friends. Sabrina slowly gets through his defenses just by being herself, and eventually Hunter can’t resist her. These two connect on a different level than he’s used to, and it’s so sweet to see them come together. Plus, Sabrina is the type of character that just seems realistic and endearing, and I enjoyed her personality.

As a whole, I’m excited for the rest of the guys of SWANK’s stories. They’re all very different from one another but still devoted to each other. The Sweetest Thing gives us more insight into these characters, and I can’t wait to see how Hughes writes their tales.

The Sweetest Thing isn’t to be missed if you’re a fan of Hughes or even just entertaining series that include likable characters. It’s sweet and fun, and I recommend it.
