Book Three in the Reynold’s Restoration series focuses on
Brett and Kelly. We’ve gotten bits of them in the previous books, but now the
focus is on them and their difficult pasts with each other. When the story begins,
we find that Kelly is back in town, and Brett isn’t exactly pleased about that.
She’s broken his heart before, and he’s not too excited that she’s around
again. But, little by little, things change, and their relationship goes from
strained to friends and then to much more.
I love when you get a couple’s whole story and see how it’s
all evolved, and that’s the case with Shifting Gears. I enjoyed seeing how each
Brett and Kelly were wounded by their pasts both together and otherwise, and
then how things were resolved. There’s a lot of history between them that
needed to be settled, and Moreland gives a us that in a way that’s cute but
steamy and with solid storytelling.
Plus, something I’ve loved about this whole series and now
this book is that we get this larger group of characters that are just as good
as the main characters. I adore how each of the books revisit all the other
previous main characters, and we get glimpses of their lives now. Also, the
idea that family is made up of the people you care about that aren’t
necessarily directly related to you permeates this story, and I love the camaraderie
and genuine affection these characters have for one another. There’s something
very endearing about it all, and it’s part of why I enjoy this story (and
series) as much as I do.
So, if you’re looking for a sweet but steamy story of love
and redemption with a likeable cast of characters, then I suggest checking out
Shifting Gears. This second chance/friends to lovers/smalltown romance is
another well written book in this series, and it’s not to be missed.
