The Secret Roommate by Sara Ney

Duke and Posey’s story is beyond cute and fun and is exactly what I wanted it to be. The book begins with Duke needing a place to hide out for a couple of weeks until he has his big press conference concerning his going to play for a new team. The perfect place according to his agent Eli is Molly’s (both from The Make Out Artist) house that she owns and rents to her best friend Posey. Upon meeting each other, Duke and Posey don’t exactly get along and hilarity ensues. This is a story of opposites attract, but their relationship eventually evolves with a lot of entertaining moments along the way.

At first Duke is a lot to deal with, though I think that’s the point. But little by little we get to see him as more than the doofus football player that acts like he was raised by wild animals. Turns out he’s an affable sweetheart that’s misunderstood. In fact, he’s up there with a couple of my favorite heroes from this author (Rhett from The Learning Hours and Kip from Jock Rule specifically). He’s kind and genuine and far more down to earth than he first starts out as. He’s a big sweetie, and I adore his character. Then there’s Posey, and I love that she’s so feisty when everyone thinks she’s just this adorable kindergarten teacher. She’s way more than that, and the way she and Duke play off one another is seriously funny. Add in the anticipation and eventual steaminess between them, and we get an incredibly enjoyable book.

Plus, the secondary characters were wonderfully written into the storyline. I already knew I loved Molly, but Mrs. Galvin is amazing. I love a crotchety character, and that’s exactly what we get with her. She adds this low-key humor that reminds me of Sophia from The Golden Girls. Also, after meeting Duke’s brothers, I’m really hoping we get to see them in their own books.

This is the sort of sports romance that made me fall in love with Ney’s books, and I’m beyond pleased with how Duke and Posey’s story transpired. It’s sweet, funny, lighthearted and spicy when it needs to be, and I highly encourage romcom lovers to give it a read.
