Shattered Dynasty is everything a dark, enemies-to-lovers romance should be! It’s sexy, addictive, and compellingly mysterious.
Payton Hart is in her senior year of college and lives a
comfortable life thanks to her sister Erin’s ex-boyfriend, Ronnie, that Payton
has come to know as more of a father figure. Soon enough she finds out that the
reason that she hasn’t seen Ronnie is that he was in prison and killed there.
At the funeral, it comes out that her sister was the other woman, and after at
the will reading she meets his family. Obviously, Ronnie’s family is less than
happy to meet Erin and Payton and even less happy when they find that Payton is
the sole heir to 22 million dollars. Unfortunately for her, Ronnie named his
son, Trent Aldridge, the one in charge until Payton’s 22nd birthday,
which is still nearly a year away. Trent is hot and alluring but also the
biggest jerk, and the man that’s now made it his mission in life to make Payton
pay for his father’s sins. What ensues is how two people who cannot stand each other
but are in close proximity deal with being thrown into one another’s lives.
I couldn’t get enough of this book! Right away I loved
Payton’s character. She comes off as sweet, smart, and as someone who’s
persevered through more than anyone should have to, but she’s come through her
experiences stronger for all the bad she’s delt with. And Trent? He’s not at
all likeable to start with, but slowly we discover that he’s not exactly who he
shows himself to be to Payton. As the book goes on, it’s hard not to see his
appeal. I love their interactions and how well they played off one another. Payton
always has a comeback for whatever Trent throws his way, and his reactions are
always entertaining.
What I love most about this book are the twists and turns.
It’s not just your typical romance, since it has an element of suspense to it.
The entire time there’s something that’s just simmering beneath the surface,
and that along with the depth of Payton and Trent as the main characters makes
this book such a page turner.
Payton and Trent’s story is a must read that’s provocative
with an intensely interesting plotline, and you won’t be able to put it down.
