Doctor Scandalous by J. Saman

Doctor Scandalous is sweet, heartfelt and sexy! It’s the sort of romance that stays with you.

Oliver and Amelia first met in middle school at their prestigious private school where he was the popular kid from a wealthy family and she was the janitor’s daughter there on scholarship. Since then, Oliver has relatively coasted through life still as popular as ever even as an adult finishing up his medical residency, and Amelia is now a nurse and her sister’s guardian ever since their parents died years ago in a car accident. The two reconnect at their 10-year high school reunion, and Oliver concocts a plan for them to pretend to be engaged for the night in order to make it through. One thing leads to another, and they both give in to their long-time crushes on one another, and Amelia goes home with Oliver that night. Unfortunately for them, the paparazzi out their “engagement” after taking pictures of them kissing the night before. In order to keep his ailing mother happy (she thinks her baby boy really is engaged), he convinces Amelia to go along with their ruse from the night before. In exchange, Oliver is supposed to secure a full-ride scholarship for Amelia’s sister to the same expensive private school they went to. Throughout the rest of the book, Oliver and Amelia’s relationship evolves from a fake engagement to a more real relationship with plenty of bumps in the road.

This is the first of J. Saman’s books that I’ve read, and I am definitely going to read more of her works! I love how well written and detailed this story is. I fully understand the characters’, main and secondary, motivations and feel they were all totally thought out. I feel like a lot of the time secondary characters especially aren’t explained, but Saman definitely put some effort in giving each of them their proper place in the larger story. Also, normally I’m sort of indifferent to other characters as long as they do their job of supporting whatever the plotline is, but I really liked them from Amelia’s little sister, who’s completely cute and funny, to Oliver’s loveable family.

Speaking of characters, Oliver and Amelia made for such an awesome pairing! They were instantly likeable and fit together so well. Their characters played off one another in such a way that they just made sense together even though they come from vastly different backgrounds and lifestyles. And Oliver? He is sweet and sexy and oh so swoon worthy! I couldn’t get enough of him.

This delightfully well-written story is absolutely worth reading. You’ll fall in love with Oliver and Amelia right away!
