Characters with lots of depth are one of the hallmarks of
Sorensen’s books for me, and I love this author for it. She’s got the ability
to take a trope that might be otherwise a bit silly and give it so much gravity
while still making it fun. There are lots of moments I thought were beyond
cute, but then there were times I teared up, too. This book is the best of both
worlds.
And Beckett and Greer? Love them! As a Wilder, I knew I’d like
Greer, and she doesn’t disappoint. She’s Sweet, sassy, and smart, and the way
her brain seems to work is so relatable. Then there’s Beckett, and he’s so serious
but has a huge heart and soft spot for his daughter. I mean, he braids his
little girl’s hair. Could anything be more adorable and swoon inducing? I think
not. These two are such opposites, and it creates some delightful friction, but
that’s part of what makes this book so unputdownable.
This slow burn is an enjoyable must read and a great
addition to the little universe Sorensen’s created. I look forward to seeing
what’s next for this bunch of characters.
