Whit is an incredibly successful rockstar and single dad
that meets Ava who’s been dealt quite a tragic hand in life the last few years.
The night they find each other they’re both just looking for a welcome
distraction, but their connection is immediate. I’m not going to say anymore
because I don’t want to ruin it for anyone, but this book is filled with so
much heartache but sweetness, too. I’m genuinely awed by Aton’s ability to
traverse such a spectrum of issues and emotions in this book. I was immediately
hooked and didn’t want this book to finish.
I think what I loved most is the character development and
growth. Both Whit and Ava are the sorts of characters that I think just about
everyone can identify with in some way, whether it’s how they feel or their own
insecurities or whatever. I adore perfectly flawed characters, and I got that
with them. Plus, the way they evolved was endearing and believable, and they
ended up being very satisfying characters.
You’ll smile. You’ll swoon. You’ll probably cry. I know I
did. Don’t worry, though. Aton’s wonderful storytelling wraps up nicely in the
end, but not before making you feel all the things. This may be her first
novel, but I’m already a fan of her work. In fact, I’m adding this book to a very
short list of this year’s must reads. It’s simply just that good.
