Rarely am I left speechless after reading a book anymore. I mean, read a lot…like A LOT. But The Hustler has done just that, and I mean that in the best way possible. This book is so heartfelt and emotional but filled with the lightness of love, and just trust me when I say you need to read it.
The eighth book in the Boston Hawks Hockey series brings us
Theo, AKA Eddie Sims, and Sophia’s story. After quite a period of time where
Theo essentially acted recklessly, he’s turned over a new leaf and has
rededicated himself to being a better man and teammate. Newly single, Sophia is
the events planner at her ex’s family’s resort in Maui when she meets Theo. It’s
her last event, and that’s where she meets him. They have an instant and
undeniable connection and spend the night together, but when Sophia finds out who
Theo is, their fling is cut short. Fast forward to her brother moving to Boston
to play for the Hawks, and Sophia decides to move with him. She and Theo reconnect,
and from there we get to see their story play out.
These characters! Sophia is vibrant and unique, and she has
had such a tough go of things growing up but thrives nevertheless. And Theo? Not
going to lie, I assumed he was the spoiled party boy with how his character was
portrayed before, but in this book he’s a different man. He’s become this swoon
worthy, sweet (but still hot), and genuine character, and it would be
impossible to not fall in love with his charm. There’s a sincerity to his
character that is so moving, and I could not get enough of him.
I feel like the first theme in this story is redemption. Both
Theo and Sophia are attempting to be better versions of themselves (for Theo
not to be such a buffoon in life and for Sophia to move past the person she was
with her ex), and in finding one another they’re able to do just that. Together
they thrive, and their journey is a sweet and romantic one. The other theme
though would be love through thick and thin. They’re faced with such
challenges, but together they navigate them no matter what. It’s sort of this
sense of pure love and dedication, and it’s just lovely and really works for
these characters.
This is a thoughtful and rather poignant romance. It’s got
so much heart written into its pages, and whether or not you’ve read the other
books in this series, you’re going to enjoy it.
