This story traces Luca, the billionaire doctor with a reputation,
and Raven, who’s younger and the daughter of his family’s estate manager/head
of security who’s pined after him for forever, as they fall in love, break up,
and then reconnect four years later. Their relationship is beautiful and difficult
at the same time, and we get to see every part of their relationship through
the years. I absolutely adore that we get to see how their love starts, falters,
and then all the troubles they face while finding their way back to each other.
Witnessing the ferocity of their feelings for each other and then the hurt and
disappointment and then eventually when they get their second chance made the
book feel like it came full circle, and I love that Luca and Raven’s story isn’t
easy.
And these characters! Luca and Raven are amazingly well
written and complex. Both have their flaws and make questionable decisions or
say questionable things at times, but that makes them so much more real and relatable.
They’re not perfect, and that’s what makes them perfect in this book. Their
choices, love, and what they put each other through are sometimes hard and
simple at the same time, and I think that’s part of what makes this book so great
and what had me desperately in need of finding out how it ends. I enjoyed every
bit of Luca and Raven’s story, and it’s one of those books where I was sad when
it ended just because I wanted more of them.
To say I enjoyed this book is an understatement. I love
romances with imperfect love/relationships/characters, and that’s what this
book is all about. J. Saman has outdone herself with Doctor Playboy, and I’m
excited to read Kaplan’s book next.
