The Proposal by Maya Hughes

The Proposal is Maya Hughes’ first book in the Swank series, and it is definitely worth the read! It’s sweet, sexy, and fun.

The Proposal starts with an unpleasant meeting between Leo, a former pro NFL player, and Zara, an assistant event planner hoping to finally work her way up in the company she works for. Despite their rough first-time meeting, they wind up being forced to work together planning an event. Funny enough, they also wind up being fake engaged for the next month, which results in some rather entertaining interactions for the reader.

Both characters come from difficult backgrounds and have their own unfortunate set of circumstances behind their motivations to be the best during their month working alongside one another. Over the course of the book, their chemistry builds even though they’re supposed to be trying to best one another. They eventually come together and end up with real feelings, and it’s sweet to see the story build how it does.

I really enjoyed both main characters, especially Leo. He’s sweet and fun and will make you swoon. He had his dream realized and then it was swiftly taken away because of an injury. Despite that, he’s still such a likable character not letting his disappointments turn him sour, and I loved how much fun he brought to the story. Also, we meet Leo’s group of friends, and I’m absolutely looking forward to them in the future books.

So, if you’re looking for a fun book to start off a new series, I say give The Proposal a chance. If you’re a fan of Hughes’ other works, you’ll enjoy Leo and Zara’s story.
