This book focuses on Basilio (Bas) and Wynter’s relationship. We first met Wynter as one of the four sassy young friends in Corrupted Pleasure, and now we get to find her story out. Bas is the kingpin of New York, and he meets Wynter when she literally falls into his hands. There’s an immediate connection, but it takes a little while for them to cross paths again. When they do, their love affair ignites, but of course things aren’t easy for them. As the book progresses, a lot happens to threaten their burgeoning relationship, and you’ll just have to read the book to find out what I mean.
Bas and Wynter sizzle from the very start, and their characters complement each other so well. I enjoy a story where he’s the dark and she’s the light, but then it all becomes a bit muddied as the story goes on, which is the case here. Everything that happens with and around them is so interestingly written, and the twists and turns make these two completely compelling.
Throughout the course of this book, so much happens that I’m loathed to call this series a series as it strikes me as more of a saga. Especially if you’ve read the Belles and Mobsters series, you’ll understand what I mean when I say this story is complex. It has so many moving parts, and they all work together to create this masterfully done tale about love, sacrifice, betrayal, and redemption.
I highly recommend this romance for anyone that likes dark/mafia romance. It’s steamy and intricately dramatic, and I can’t wait to see what the rest of the series has in store for this cast of characters.
