The Crush by Karla Sorensen

You know the sort of book that makes you just feel so much like to the point where you’re in a bit of a funk after reading it because it just had that sort of power to do that to you? Yeah, The Crush did that to me. It’s beautifully written, heartfelt, and brimming with so much tenderness that I’m certain this book hangover is going to last a while.

Emmett and Adaline have known each other for years, but it takes a catastrophic incident with Emmett’s friend and teammate to make him realize what he wants. Five years before, Adaline had confessed her feelings to Emmett, but the timing was all wrong. But now? Emmett realizes what he’s been missing out on, and he’s got all his focus on winning Adaline over. This is a second-chance/friends-to-lovers romance, and we get to see how they navigate their present circumstance to become hopefully something more.

These main characters are simply made for one another! Emmett is sweet and so swoonworthy, and I loved seeing how steadfast he is in his desire for Adaline. And she’s completely relatable and likable, and I empathized with how she dealt with everything being thrown at her in life. It’s not just her thing with Emmett either. She’s got other outside factors in her life to consider, and I appreciated her dedication to her family. I think what makes these two so good together is that they truly seem to understand one another, and there’s a sense of maturity to how they take it all on that made them such an endearing pair.

Also, I enjoyed how heartbreakingly beautiful Emmett and Adaline’s story was. There’s so much push and pull, and the idea that sometimes timing can be such a pest is prominent. I love that this book isn’t necessarily easy in the sense that there’s a lot that gets in the way of their being together, but even more I love that it’s not some silly, dramatic somethings keeping them apart. You’ll understand what I’m trying to say when you read it, but I like the complexity of this romance.

If you’re in the mood for a solid romance that will pull at your heartstrings, then this book is it! I smiled plenty, cried a bit, and audibly swooned throughout this book, and I think you just might too.
